Training Our Llewellin Setters

Published by LML under Training

Lots of work with the dogs and puppies this week. The lovely, cooler weather continues to make training possible for me. Here are a few photos to share of Jess and Covey on some work steadying them.

Summer Training Fun With Llewellin Setter Puppies

Finally remembered to grab the camera and got some nice photos of a puppy session last evening. Levi and Addison are coming along nicely and got into loads of birds. They had a blast chasing quail, chukars, and pheasant. They got their noses full of scent and it didn’t take them long to start locking-up on scent. Addison worked a pheasant all by herself and locked-up rock solid–and I actually got a good picture of it!

Busy Summer at Laurel Mt. Llewellins

Seeing that it has been months since last posting, I thought I would make a quick post to bring everyone up-to-date.

PA has been blessed with beautiful, cooler temperatures the past several weeks, so a lot training has been going on. I have been working all the dogs from 4 months of age to 4 years. Here are a few photos that I was able to get:

We hear from most folks with LML puppies, but not all. I’ll post some of the latest photos here. You can also see the updates on the pups on the LML site.

Reporting on the outlook for the upcoming bird season: Things are looking pretty good in many states, although reportedly PA is not one of them! The Autumn 2008 issue of The Upland Almanac has a good article on the Fall forecast. Tell us about your upcoming hunting trips! We are planning ours, now. I can’t wait to go!!!

How Fitting A Destination…

Published by LML under Shay x Brier Puppies

I think it is so very cool that 2 of the puppies from a litter given temporary names that are towns in the great state of Maine are going to live in Maine. They will also keep their names. Ashland and Brook left this morning for their airplane ride to their new home. We spent the last few days getting the pups used the crate. This morning went off without a hitch. The gals were snuggled up together in their shipping crate awaiting departure, after a lengthy romp in an out-of-the-way grassy area at the airport. Five hours later, they arrived safely into the arms of their new, “Mom” and “Grandmom.” Both are just fine. Very cool.
